Store Terms, Shipping and Returns

Last updated: September 3, 2026

These Store Terms (e.g., the things that the lawyers require), Shipping and Returns apply to purchases from Backyard History through backyardhistory.ca. By placing an order, you agree to these terms. They do not limit any non-waivable rights or remedies available to you under applicable consumer-protection law.

About Backyard History

The store is operated by Backyard History from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. You can contact us about an order at andrewmaclean@backyardhistory.ca or by mail at Backyard History, PO Box 563 Stn. A, Fredericton, New Brunswick E3B 4Y2.

Products, prices, and taxes

Product descriptions, images, prices, and availability are presented as accurately as reasonably possible. Screen colours and handmade or signed details may vary slightly. Prices are in Canadian dollars. Applicable taxes and shipping charges are calculated and shown before you place your order.

We may correct an obvious description, pricing, tax, or inventory error. If an error affects an order you have already placed, we will contact you and offer the choice of proceeding on the corrected terms or receiving a full refund. Product availability and prices may change before an order is placed.

Orders and payment

An order-confirmation message acknowledges that we received your order; it does not guarantee acceptance or shipment. We may refuse or cancel an order for reasons such as unavailable inventory, an obvious error, an unsuccessful or unverified payment, suspected fraud, an unsupported delivery address, or a legal restriction. If we cancel after receiving payment, we will issue a full refund.

Available payment methods are displayed at checkout and may include cards or digital wallets through WooPayments, PayPal, and Interac e-Transfer. Third-party payment services are also governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

For Interac e-Transfer, payment instructions are provided after the order is placed. The order remains on hold and will not ship until the payment is received and matched to the order. An unpaid order may be cancelled.

Book signing and special requests

Backyard History books are normally signed by the author. You may request a personalized inscription in the order-note field. We will make reasonable efforts to follow a clear request but may contact you if clarification is needed. Please review spelling and other details carefully before submitting the order.

Shipping and local delivery

We currently accept delivery addresses in Canada and the United States. Eligible Fredericton-area addresses in postal-code regions E3A, E3B, E3C, E3E, and E3G may be offered local delivery. The available method and final shipping charge depend on the delivery address and products in the cart and are shown at checkout before you place the order.

Orders normally dispatch within 1–3 business days after payment is received. This is a processing estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date. Weekends, holidays, severe weather, carrier disruption, customs processing, unusually high order volume, or a request requiring clarification may cause delay. We will contact you if we become aware of a significant delay.

Tracking is provided when it is included with the selected delivery service. Customers are responsible for supplying a complete and accurate delivery address. Contact us promptly if you notice an error. If an order has not yet dispatched, we will make reasonable efforts to correct it.

Orders sent to the United States may be subject to customs processing, import duties, brokerage charges, or other fees imposed outside Canada. Unless checkout expressly states otherwise, the recipient is responsible for those charges.

Cancellations

To request a cancellation, email us as soon as possible with your order number. We will cancel and refund an order if the request is received before dispatch. Once an order has dispatched, the return policy below applies. A personalized inscription that has already been completed may prevent cancellation even if the parcel has not yet left; if that occurs, we will contact you.

Returns and exchanges

You may request a return within 30 days after delivery. Contact andrewmaclean@backyardhistory.ca with your order number before sending anything back so that we can confirm eligibility and provide return instructions.

For a change-of-mind return, the item must be unused, unworn, and in resalable condition, with its original packaging where applicable. A standard author signature does not by itself make a book non-returnable. A book containing a customer-requested personalized inscription is final sale unless it is damaged, defective, or not what you ordered.

For change-of-mind returns, you are responsible for return postage and the original shipping charge is not refundable. We recommend retaining proof of shipment. If we sent an incorrect item or the item arrived damaged or defective, Backyard History will cover the reasonable return or replacement cost.

Exchanges, including T-shirt size exchanges, depend on available inventory. If a requested replacement is unavailable, we will offer a refund for the returned item.

Damaged, incorrect, delayed, or missing orders

Please contact us promptly with your order number if an item arrives damaged or defective, if you receive the wrong item, or if a tracked parcel appears lost. Include photographs of the item and packaging when reasonably possible. We will work with you and the delivery provider to arrange an appropriate replacement, refund, or other remedy.

Refunds

We will inspect an eligible return and notify you whether it has been approved. Approved refunds are issued promptly to the original payment method where possible. Financial institutions and payment providers may require additional processing time before the credit appears. If the original method cannot receive the refund, we will arrange a reasonable alternative with you.

Customer information and privacy

You are responsible for providing accurate order and account information and for keeping account credentials confidential. Our collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of personal information are described in the Backyard History Privacy Policy.

Website content and acceptable use

The stories, writing, photographs, illustrations, branding, and other content on this site are owned by Backyard History or used with permission and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may use the site for personal, lawful shopping and reading. You may not interfere with the site’s operation, attempt unauthorized access, misuse an account, or reproduce or commercially exploit protected content without permission.

Responsibility and applicable law

To the extent permitted by law, Backyard History is not responsible for an indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when an order was placed, or for delay caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility or a warranty, condition, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.

These terms are governed by the laws of New Brunswick and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without depriving you of mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.

Changes and contact

The terms in effect when you place an order apply to that order. We may update these terms for future orders by posting a revised version and changing the “Last updated” date.

Questions about products, shipping, returns, or these terms may be sent to andrewmaclean@backyardhistory.ca.
